According to Sport, highly rated left-back Joel López has told the Catalan giants that he has his eyes set on a move to Arsenal.
Barcelona attempted to convince López to stay by offering him a new contract. They even had a highly ranked member of staff at the club talk to him to persuade him to stay put but it was to no avail. López, who plays for Barcelona's U16s, has been on Arsenal's radar for months. After the appointment of Rául Sanllehí, the North London club's interest in the youngster grew as the new head of recruitment seems to have been keeping an eye on his former club's youth players.
Barca will receive development rights for the player and Arsenal will have to pay a compensation fee following López's rejection of a contract but there seems to be no complications in the deal. La Masia has somewhat dried up since the generation of Xavi and Iniesta, and López isn't the only player leaving the setup this summer with Pablo Moreno agreeing terms with Italian giants Juventus. Liverpool also expressed an interest in Joel López but the Spaniard, barring any major hiccups, looks destined to be wearing the red of Arsenal.
This is not the first time Barcelona have had one of their La Masia stars snapped up by the Gooners. Cesc Fàbregas, Héctor Bellerín and Fran Mérida also swapped Catalunya for North London, and the confirmation of the young full-back's move is expected imminently.
