After the confirmation that Forest would be out of their transfer embargo, the Reds will look to make their first money signings since November 2014. Here are three realistic targets that the Tricky Trees should attempt to sign over the Summer.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson – Winger
The Charlton wide man is a player I have admired since he arrived at The Valley. Gudmundsson always looks a dangerous player and has that ability to go passed someone given the chance. Forest currently have a lack of natural width and struggle to stretch the pitch, so who better to fill that void than a man who scored 6 times coupled with 11 assists last term, in a poor Addicks side.
A player such as the Icelandic would balance an already class midfield, as Chris Cohen and Henri Lansbury are the perfect ball players to feed in a direct winger. With Charlton’s slide in to League One, he may be allowed to leave for a very low fee and you’d imagine that Championship clubs will be queueing up, let’s just hope the Trickies are one of them.
Nelson Oliveira – Striker
An absolute gem of a loan signing from the then manager Dougie Freedman. The Portuguese front man arrived having not really lived up to his potential and struggled in a Swansea side last term. It was clear to see from the off that Oliveira had that continental class and flair on the ball, and was a large part in Forest not getting sucked in to a relegation scrap. With the return of Assombalonga, Nelson Oliveira has all the attributes to be a perfect foil and form a deadly striker partnership. Luring Nelson away from Benfica certainly wouldn’t be cheap but with the impact he made last campaign, the mercurial striker is a must buy in my opinion.
Alejandro Faurlin – Central Midfielder
The former QPR man is now a free agent having been released by the West London club, and what a signing he could be for be reds, to partner Henri Lansbury and David Vaughan. It’s clear to see that Faurlin is a very gifted player, with bags of ability however an injury hit spell at QPR has probably caused his release, along with him being a high earner. Forest need to be smart this window, and the Argentine could come in and suit them perfectly. Why spend money on unproven players when Faurlin is Championship ready? Those should be the thoughts of the board at Forest. If rumours are to be believed and Oscar Garcia does arrive at the city ground, he would do wonders for a ball player like Faurlin, who in a 4-3-3 system, would excel.
Who do you think Forest should look to sign this summer? Do you agree with these 3? Let us know in the comments below!
