The English 2nd tier of football looks to be another exciting competition next season and a very strong one at that. With many teams next season looking at the possibility of promotion, at least half the teams in the league will be aiming for such, and with some big names in there anything is possible and should make for a very captivating season. But here are the 3 teams I believe that will the big surprise packages next season and are definitely the ones to watch.
1. Burton Albion
Their first foray into the Championship will be met with scepticism from many avid football fans writing them off for relegation straight back down to League 1. However after having an amazing season in League 1 there will be some, including me, who think they will be able to survive and prosper in their new league. They will need to recreate last season’s form and make the Pirelli Stadium a fortress again, losing only 2 of their 23 games played there. They will also need to strengthen with players who know the league and survival will seem a lot easier than most people think.

2. Newcastle United
After an extremely disappointing season for the Magpies which has seen them relegated for the 2nd time in 8 years under Mike Ashley. Hope may have returned though, with Rafa Benetiz staying on and players such as Ayoze Perez and Mitrovic wanting to stay as well players coming through the ranks such Adam Armstrong and Kevin Mbabu, the future might be looking bright for the North East club who will not just be looking to gain promotion but to win the Championship. However before that happens some serious changes over the summer will have to be made and more than a couple of fresh faces brought in, with more than a few walking through the door as well.

After a struggle to get into The Championship, The Bees have quickly made their mark on the league with a strong 5th place finish and now a 9th place finish. With some fans saying that the club has gone backwards I believe they have still improved in what is arguably the toughest league in the country at the moment. If they can continue improving I see no reason why they can’t push for play-off’s once again and maybe go that one step further and get into the Premier League. Over the last 2 seasons they have looked at home in The Championship so another strong season is on the cards for them.
What do you make of these 3 teams? Will they exceed expectations? Let us know in the comments below!
