Which Players Do Sheffield Wednesday Need To Sign?

For the last 2 years Sheffield Wednesday have finished in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs, being knocked out on separate occasions by Huddersfield Town and Hull City respectively. Although the football that has been played at Hillsborough for the last decade or so has been far from satisfactory for the Owls faithful it is definitely on the up. Throughout the last two campaigns Wednesday have always looked very promising right up until the last where we have looked to be lacking something to take us over the edge. I think that with the right recruitment from the board we more than realistically could be challenging for automatic promotion next year.

One certain position that the Wednesday faithful have made it abundantly clear they want to see a player signed for is centre-back. The rumours have been flying around all over social media for the last few days, after we supposedly had a bid turned down for Cardiff skipper Sean Morrison and enquired to Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Derby about the availability of Grant Hanley, Daniel Ayala and Richard Keogh. If these rumours are true it would appear Carlos is seeking a man with Championship experience and is no-nonsense. In that case I would take Ayala as from what I’ve seen he possesses the most quality and would work a treat with Tom Lees.

Another thing the Wednesday fans have been crying out for is a pacey winger to lead counter attacks as once or twice during the season we have had the possibility to get away from teams, not only that but should we of had a faster winger or a ball over the top possibility which could have stretched opposing teams out a bit more allowing players such as Barry Bannan more space to create in the middle. I think the perfect man for this job would be Jota of Brentford, he’s lightning quick and has the footwork to match any player in this league and more, I feel he could be a real asset to our side.

Another player I want to see in the blue and white striped shirt is not a player that needs a contract signing but one who needs a chance of regular first team football; Almen Abdi. Having only seeing the Swiss-man play a few times this season I have been more than impressed by what I’ve seen. At Leeds away the team wasn’t playing particularly well yet Almen seemed to be oozing with confidence and class, the way he drifted past players like they weren’t there and picked out passes most people couldn’t even see. It is no secret that Wednesday have arguably the best strike force in the Football League consisting of players such as Rhodes, Winnall, Forestieri and Fletcher yet they still seem to be struggling to find their goal scoring boots, with two of the players with the best goal scoring records in English football, Rhodes & Winnall, scoring just 6 goals between them in over 25 games combined, and I feel as though Almen could be the solution to our problems next year.
