Dave Tarpey, the Maidenhead United striker has broken the National League South goal record.
Tarpey, 28, has already scored thirty-five times this season.
You might think with all these goals, Tarpey is a striker, he is actually a central-midfielder. I have never seen a central-midfielder score as many goals as him, it’s incredible.
Dave, was linked to many low Football League teams in the summer and January including teams like Leyton Orient and MK Dons.
After breaking the the record, Tarpey told the BBC:
“It’s a great achievement personally, but the team is more important,”
“Three points is all that matters currently,” Tarpey said, after scoring twice in Maidenhead’s 3-1 victory at Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday.
“It’s nice to break the goal-scoring record, but the main focus is keeping us top and hopefully getting promoted.
“We’ve just got to expect Ebbsfleet will keep winning games and we’ve just got to go into every game knowing that if we keep winning, we’ll win the league.”
Tarpey really has been the star man for Maindenhead this season.
It is a real shame Dave is twenty-eight and not able to be a future star anymore…. Tarpey is currently linked to move to Gillingham or Charlton this coming summer
I think Charlton is the best place for Tarpey, especially after they lost Ademola Lookman to Everton, who scored a goal on his Premier League debut. Charlton obviously also being a very good club, previously in the Championship I think Tarpey would get first team and fit in that side nicely.
On the other hand I don’t think Gillingham would be the best fit for Tarpey because he probably wouldn’t be able to get into the first team due to Rory Donnelly and Cody McDonald, two very good strikers.
I think Tarpey won’t move because he obviously likes to be the main guy at his club and that’s exactly what he is at Maidenhead.
If we are looking at Tarpey’s career so far he has played for only two other teams, Hampton & Richmond Borough and FC Farnborough, two teams who aren’t really noticed.
Tarpey has also had two FA Cup appearances, both for Maidenhead against Port Vale.
I really do wish Tarpey does get the chance this summer to prove himself in the Football League as he has 100% deserved the chance
We all know what happened to Jamie Vardy when he got the chance to play in the higher leagues at the age of twenty-nine.
