As the ‘big six’ of the Premier League continue to dominate the tabloids with their marquee signings, it looks like former champions Leicester City could be set to pull off one of the signings of the season as they move closer to the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho.
Iheanacho has been one of very few to make the transition from Academy to First Team at Manchester City, but now the Nigerian looks poised to switch from Manchester to Leicester after falling down the pecking order at City, after the January addition of highly-rated Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.
Various outlets reported that a fee in the region of £25 million will be enough to prize the 21 year old forward away from Manchester.
Iheanacho has scored 21 goals in the last two seasons, all as an understudy to main man Sergio Aguero, and may replace Jamie Vardy up front who isn’t getting any younger. For me, Iheanacho would be an instant success at Leicester City, and could have been an ideal signing for Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool, who have both had problems finding a suitable replacement to their respected forwards.
At a cut-price of £25 million, the Nigerian won’t be the cheapest but in this inflated market, he certainly looks value for money.
