Are Everton good enough to finish in the top 4?

Written by Richard Williams

Everton have undoubtedly had a phenomenal start to the season. Undefeated in their opening five games in the league and winning four of them. The question is, do they have what it takes to finish in a Champions League spot? Personally I believe they may finish in 5th. I don’t think they have enough depth in the squad to go all season and keep their current form up. The forwards signed this summer, Yannick Bolasie, Dominic Calvert-lewin and Bassala Sambou have added fire power to the side, especially in Bolasie (why?). Bolasie and Romelu Lukaku have formed a decent bond in the early weeks of the season, Lukaku scoring four goals in five outings. But is the partnership good enough to compete for a European Football? Another summer signing saw the arrival of Ashley Williams, the experience is there but some would argue that Williams is past his best. Are Williams and Jagielka a good partnership at the back? Some would even argue Everton could have been better off keeping John Stones and partnering him with either Williams or in form Mason Holgate.

Everton were far from their best on Tuesday against Norwich as they saw their undefeated run in all competitions come to an end in a 2-0 defeat in the EFL Cup. Idrissa Gueye has been a rock in the midfield until his poor performance in the disappointing home defeat. He was blamed by some fans for the loss, failing to make an impact in the game. Which brings me back to the question at hand, are they good enough to maintain this form in the league? If Championship side Norwich can sweep them aside, how will the fair against the bigger teams in the League?
