In 2016/17 Leyton Orient were relegated from the football league for the first time. The blame lies with the chairman Francesco Beccheti who single handedly relegated a club who had been in the football league for 112 years. But is the damage Bechetti has done too much to fix?
When Orients new manager Steve Davis arrived at the club there were only three back room staff members and ten eligible players and all of which were under 20. After bringing in former players who were ordered to leave by Beccehtti even after not paying them on numerous occasions. Davis will be looking to players like George Elokobi to lift them out of the fifth tier. Davis will also be needing to impress the die hard Orient fans who made sure their voices were heard last season after pitch invading their final game of the season against Colchester, the match would be postponed and then abandoned until all supporters were removed from the stadium.
Life in the third tier hasn’t gotten off to the best start for the Londoners after a 2-0 defeat to Sutton United on the opening day of the season at Gander Green Lane. The fans believed that promotion would be a simple task but the O’s definitely demonstrated the opposite in their opening day performance. But since then they were able to grab their first three points in the fifth tier with a 3-1 win over Solihull Moors in their first-midweek match of the season.
We all know that it is never a simple task to win promotion after dropping down a division. But with the damage, Beccheti has caused promotion was made a lot harder to achieve. However with the backing of some of the capitals most passionate fans it will not be long before the O’s return to the football league.
